Spring Clean!

Six ways to get your space ready for spring…

Well hallo everyone! Don’t you think, since spring is right on our door step, it’s time for a good old clean up, re-vamp, re-style, de-clutter, re-fresh or whatever you like to call it.       It’s time for a BIG spring clean!

De-clutter… there are many things that we need to look closer at when de-cluttering. Is this an item worth the time cleaning or storing?? Or even could the space be used for something else? My Mum has a great motto to de-clutter a home. It’s a harsh one but it’s a good one…

…if in doubt throw out!  Holy moly!b9c271f31459546d5d12101aad75abc0

Paint…I love this, the quickest and cheapest way to transform any room without doubt!  A wall or a whole room, try a strong colour or a subdued colour.  Grab a colour cart and splash into a colour that you fancy.  Or, not to worry if you have some art or a picture on your wall that you love take a closer look in the picture and you’ll find a contrasting colour that you can use in your space. Notice how the wall, in the pic under, gives the room more depth than if it was white like the rest. Easy peasy.6664eaeb424dcf88ade363db9ce9799b

Freshen up…cushion covers are just the best. Don’t cost much and you can change your pillows with every season. Go fresh, go light, go with linen and cotton and patterns and textures. Think the more layers of textures the more stimulating and intriguing your space will be. Knock you’re sofas socks off:-)0001875a988124bf5e8602f713458e27

Go green…we are just so lucky at the moment green plants are in BIG! Get down to your local garden center and bring home some luscious green plants and trees for in your home.c264d8cc2344acb9bd3ccce218185593

Move it around…sometimes we really don’t need new furniture; sometimes it’s rather a case of moving the sofa or chair to another place.  Even re-grouping a stole with a side table and a floor lampshade will do the trick. What about moving your rugs around or put your sofa in the middle of the room and work some Magic round that. It’s all about bringing new life to your living room!800fd76a4b393de207c57d9605f5152b

Party on…it’s time for a tea party people. Make some scones and tea with jam and cream.  Invite your friends for an afternoon tea.  Good excuse getting your home spic and span clean before they arrive, I say:-)ae7b3e123b29d4369bc1bb4f866add60

The best time of the year…spring! Longer and warmer days ahead and then….summer. Delight!

Changing a room with colour blocking

Colour blocking often applies to fashion but it works well in interior and it simply means that you pair one or several totally different colours together to make a bold statement. Choose a shade that has the same level of intensity for a real cool effect. I talk about colour blocking on my interior courses and it’s such a cheap and quick and easy way of transforming a room! Fun!

One, ever so good, general rule!

One last general rule about colour: the more we understand colour and how they work together, the more we can play with them. It’s far too easy to go down the safe road and go plain but just think how much more tantalizing our homes could be if we push the boundaries. Stretch your horizons a bit and try putting colours together that you love and thought couldn’t go together.

Get inspiration from everything around you, put together a moodboard of colours and suddenly everything will fall into place.

Pale pink violet

Last week Fargeriket announced lilac as colour of the year. Lilac or mauve is not one of my favourite colours. Not sure why really?  But pale pink violet sounds sexier than lilac and pale pink with a hint a blue purple adds a bit of a chill affect to the name. But I reckon this picture below with the crystal chandelier and the pale pink violet walls is absolutely gorgeous. Maybe, I might just be showing a little weakness for pale pink violet colour! If this picture has anything to do with it.

Good as Gold!

GOLD is going to be hot hot hot this year in interior. Guaranteed!  So whether you sling gold together with white and pastels or rock it up in dark rooms you’ll be creating a space that oozes with style.  I think I’ll be opting for a spray can and blitzing up a few old vases or the like. An addition of wallpaper or a mirror in gold would be stunning. Whatever you do –do it with confidence and have fun!

‘Pip’ wallpaper

There is nothing more refreshing and positive using yellow in a combined guest/hobby room. Get those energy levels running on high!  I have just received some pictures from Elisabeth that was so lucky to win a competition of a few hours interior help from RoomDesign, through the used/recycling shop ‘DenGrønneBaljen’ (which is now closed unfortunately) here in Bergen.  Many ideas, tips and advice were discussed on how to furnish the guest room into a combined hobby room and some tips with colour and wallpaper for her bedroom.  See the results for yourself. I think it all turned out well don’t you think? And by the way for those who love  Helge Jordal, check out the last picture – Elisabeth has the most awesome picture of him in her entrance way!!! Thanks for sending the pictures,Elisabeth:-)

Shifting moods

It’s okay we shift our moods all the time when decorating our home. One day minimalistic or the next day or month Glam&Rock! And sometimes, well most often, we are never satisfied.   But it’s the final result, the finishing touches, we are all looking for in a room, right?  Sometimes it’s the background to the room that is hindering that balance and harmony in the room. Have you the right colour on the walls to show off your art collection? Is the room missing atmosphere? How does the lighting affect the colour in the room? Many questions you have to ask yourself and where does one begin!   You can of course keep to a happy safe same colour background throughout your home or you can create an unexpected surprise with colour like the picture below. Shifting the moods from room to room and why not? Try you never know what the room will lead you to:-)

Happy day everyone and happy weekend too:-)))

Open plan living

More and more people are going for the all in one open plan living rooms. The bigger the better is the motiv but how is it to furnish the room. I like to move furniture away from the walls and try to create obvious zones. A sofa, chair or table at an angle will break up the linear aspect of a room. By retaining a single colour palette will the furniture be highlighted and makes as well the transitions between the different zones glide more into each other.

I found a picture recently which shows a good example of a family living in New York. The colours and the relaxed atmosphere to this apartment is absolutely sensational! You can follow the link under the picture to find more pictures of the apartment. Enjoy!

Have a happy day everyone:-)

Make your own style

Yes I am still alive and kicking. Has been a while, I know, since my last post but things have been super busy. Not complaining at all just loving it all! Now I don’t like to go banging on about things but for a fantastic interior all we need is confidence! Whatever you do…do it with dignity, be fearless, dare to be different, ditch all the normality’s, mix up all the styles up and be just YOU! Be inspired by all that is around you. Use magazines, blogs, people, colours…add a bit of this and add a bit of that find your own personal style. And don’t forget to add a bit humor otherwise life is just too boring. Bang! You’ve got something to work on to make an awesome home!
