Three must have essentials to make an impact for your shelves, windowsills or console tables!

By Good ideas No Comments

Believe it or not it doesn’t take much to make your window sills or console tables into a master piece. First things first though – remember if everything is the same size on your table it’s guaranteed to be plain old boring so mix it up! Put tall vases next to smaller ones; chunky square looking ceramics next to curvaceous ones, mix hard with soft, something feminine with something masculine, play around with the scale….

The Three basic element’s

Books

Stack them under a lamp or vase or anything for that case. Creates a focus point.

Flowers

Throw some flowers or even a green plant in a vase or pot. It’ll freshen up the table endless. Makes for another interesting focus point.

Lamps

One lamp or two -why not? Use one light to light up the wall behind a big vase. And add a little light to give a touch of intrigue to the whole table.  It all creates depth and personality.

Do away with rows of vases shocking and boring and no big gaps! Make a story with all your personal nips and don’t let them stand all on their poor little own.

Get decorating essential #4

By Good ideas, Kategori No Comments

Flowers, botanic and faux flowers are in! We’re past the eighties type of thing with the gruesome plastic faded looking flowers. We’re into faux flowers that you can’t see the difference from the real ones.

Take my flowers on my office desk. People look at them and think what a beautiful mix they are. I love it. I just have to giggle and say ‘THEY’RE NOT REAL!’  And why not mix it up. Make an extra fantastic focus point in your home with a small vase of fresh season flowers with the faux ones. Botanics are all the rage now too. Fig trees are very popular they will guaranteed lift a corner in your home.

One easy peasy decorating essential that will turn any space from drab to fab!

Adding odd to spaces!

By Good ideas, Interior styles No Comments

For those that have been on my recent ‘Masterclass’ course will recognize this picture! We talk about adding something odd ball to our interior. Something that will create a conversation or catch the eye! Whether it is a sculpture, artwork or something outrageous like hanging a stuffed ducks head on the wall like in this picture, we need more fun in our home. (May not be for animal lovers out there in the world – sorry if they find this offensive.) But my point is -humour lightens the mood in any space and because life is way too short to stick to ordinary boring interior rules!

Moving furniture away from walls

By Flooring, Furniture, Good ideas, Kategori, Livingroom 3 Comments

Moving furniture away from the walls in your living room breaks up the linear aspects in your room.  It gives more depth to the room; by showing more of the floor makes the room instantly bigger, more airy and far less boring! It can be as simple as angling a chair or table slightly too just add a little interest to a room and away from the boring mundane linear lines of a square room! Who knows by moving your furniture a little you might discover a whole new look to your space!!
