Cabin by the sea

By Bathroom, Bedroom, Colours, Flooring, Furniture, My work, Rugs, Wood One Comment

Rita and Arvid tok kontakt with me over a year ago. They owned a little cabin by the sea that needed a makeover. It was already quite old, outdated and because of its location and sentimental value they wanted to start using it with their own family til the sommer months.

Consideration to regulations of houses being so close to the sea, these days,  there was not much allowance for building out. In any direction! There was, though, allowed to build out the small terrasse by the kitchen. Here was placed glass sliding doors to bring the beautiful views and nature outside in.  Cladding out side the house was updated and modernized and at the same time a new terrasse was made at the entrance door. Inside walls were taken away between the kitchen and living room. The bathroom was made slightly bigger by building a little shower nook into the guestroom! Maksimalising the little space there was and a super good idea! There was made plenty of space for the garderobe in the guest room and walk-in garderobe in the main bedroom giving loads of room for extra storage. A window was suggested at the end of the hall in the entranceway adding extra light and giving extra depth to the hallway.

Take a look at all the pic’s under and get inspirert!

RoomDesign has come with advice, suggestions, ideas and space planning to the inside and outside, colours, kitchen design, bathroom design, furniture and lighting.

Clever ideas for a small bedroom.

Do you have a troublesome storage problem? Is the answer yes? Well you’re not alone!

I was called in for a project to help a family, earlier last year,  looking for exactly to solve this problem. With a baby on the way, the family wanted as much extra storage as possible!!!They wanted bunk beds, extra storage for books and toys, and a double bed for guests and a walk-in closet to clothes!  As you see with the pictures below I think we managed to get everything in.

The hidden away double bed underneath the bunk beds rolls out very easy. The built-in shelves at the end of each bunk gives good space for the books and toys, in easy reach. And the little walk-in closet at the end of the bed makes for easy access to hang all clothes and storage for other things. An advantage with built-in furniture it opens up the floor area for play and games for an active family.

Have to say a big thank you to the fabulous clever John Johnsen, the builder. None of this would ever have been able to do without his positive ‘YES!’ he can fix it attitude. I like to hear a Yes! He’s a good man and would recommend him to anyone wanting home building jobs!

No plain walls, thank you.

Sometimes our interior just needs a little tender loving care. A space that says somebody loves me! We need to love our homes because this is where we hang out most, relax the most, and it’s where we share our love with our loved ones the most. Our safety place, as they say. So why not give as much attention to detail as everything else in our lives. I talk about this a lot on my interior courses adding visual tension in a room. We need to create more focal points that in turn bring more depth and more interest to a room. No plain walls thank you, more art in all different shapes and sizes! Love this picture below, looks lived and loved in, don’t you think?

Gold+white+purple bedroom

By Bedroom, Gold, Lighting No Comments

I must say I think it is a bit boring than when two bedside lamps are exactly same.  We just need some personality, spontaneity and more fun in our homes.   And this beautiful elegant dreamy bedroom shows a wonderfully balanced and harmonious space without any symmetry at all!

Good as Gold!

GOLD is going to be hot hot hot this year in interior. Guaranteed!  So whether you sling gold together with white and pastels or rock it up in dark rooms you’ll be creating a space that oozes with style.  I think I’ll be opting for a spray can and blitzing up a few old vases or the like. An addition of wallpaper or a mirror in gold would be stunning. Whatever you do –do it with confidence and have fun!

‘Pip’ wallpaper

By Bedroom, Colours, Lighting, My work, Wallpaper No Comments

There is nothing more refreshing and positive using yellow in a combined guest/hobby room. Get those energy levels running on high!  I have just received some pictures from Elisabeth that was so lucky to win a competition of a few hours interior help from RoomDesign, through the used/recycling shop ‘DenGrønneBaljen’ (which is now closed unfortunately) here in Bergen.  Many ideas, tips and advice were discussed on how to furnish the guest room into a combined hobby room and some tips with colour and wallpaper for her bedroom.  See the results for yourself. I think it all turned out well don’t you think? And by the way for those who love  Helge Jordal, check out the last picture – Elisabeth has the most awesome picture of him in her entrance way!!! Thanks for sending the pictures,Elisabeth:-)

Texture on a grand scale!

By Bedroom, Wool&Linen 2 Comments

It has to be new love! Nothing like layering knitted blankets on sofas, stoles or beds for warmth and coziness on a cold autumn day. These awesome blankets are beautifully handmade of wool or linen and no two are the same. A little company called Little Dandelion makes these fabulous blankets so you can drool over their pictures’ on the link PressKit from their website site here.

The dark side

By Bedroom, Black, Colours No Comments

Sometimes we have to go outside our comfort zone to achieve something awesome.  And painting walls in dark charcoals, sexy inky blues or black can just be the thing to create that absolute amazing space in your home. Follow your instinct and your heart…heres some inspiration for the weekend!
